Peter E Burton, Decimus Principal
Peter brings over 20 years of experience to Decimus by way of marketing, management consultancy, telecoms, internet business and marketing software solutions development. He has an impressive track record of building and implementing corporate strategies across the Telecoms, Media, Transport, Hospitality and Finance sectors.
Peter is a veteran of the Internet boom where he started a number of venture-backed companies, MagicTel.com (now e-Kong listed on the HKSE), SPACEAsia.com (sold to CMGI's engage) and Activ8.As a founding member of the highly successful SPACE Asia Networks, Peter played an integral role in the design and development of SPACE Asia, Asia's first adserving network. Here Peter helped build-out a business that created mutually beneficial relationships between internet website publishers and advertisers. He guided this internet advertising network start-up, with offices in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Korea, China and Australia, through its early growth and its successful sale in August 2000 to Engage, Inc., (NASDAQ: ENGA) a majority-owned operating company of CMGI, Inc., (NASDAQ: CMGI). This resulted in a return for the initial investors of +100x.
As a founding member of Hong Kong's first VoIP phone card business, Magictel, Peter codeveloped ethnic targeting of prepaid calling cards within the deregulated Hong Kong telecom market. He guided this Internet telecommunications start-up through its early growth and its successful sale in October 1999 to e-Kong Group (formerly known as Goldtron Holdings). This resulted in a return for the initial investors of +40x.
Prior to working at Magictel, Peter worked for the CEO of Hutchison Telecom International from 1997 to 1998. Here Peter acted as Consultant to the management team within a newly acquired subsidiary, where he was responsible for developing and managing a program that brought forward break-even by a year.
From 1995 to 1997, Peter worked at SEMA Consulting (now Atos Consulting incorporating KPMG Consulting and Schlumberger Sema), one of Europe's leading information technology companies as a Principal Consultant. He oversaw the setting up of PT Mobile Selular (Mobisel) in Indonesia, the Occupational Pensions Regulatory Authority (OPRA) for the UK Government and Sun Life's UK direct business.
From 1994 to 1995, Peter worked with The L&R Group (now part of SITEL Corp's consultancy division.), a boutique telemarketing consultancy group where he advised a number of blue chip organisation on how to set up direct businesses.
From 1992 to 1994 Peter worked for the Chairman of UFB, a Groupe Paribas pan-European lease finance subsidiary (now part of BNP Paribas), where he was a General Manager at UFB Humberclyde in the UK, responsible for their successful restructuring.
Peter holds a first degree in Engineering and an MBA from Henley Management College in the UK. He is married, has a eight year old daughter and a four year old son.
In his younger days Peter spent most of his spare time rock climbing. He's now moved on to mountain biking and hiking.
